FOR MUSIC & SONG WRITING LOVERS

ENGLISH CHALLENGE

Are you a creative person?
Do you sometimes make up stories and write them down?
Have you ever written a song?

Well, if you have answered YES to at least 2 questions,
YOU´RE THE PERSON WE´RE LOOKING FOR.

Since this academic year is getting to its end and since this last term has been so weird, we want you to do something absolutely different and a bit crazy.

  • I WANT TO HOLD YOUR HAND, one of the most famous songs by The Beatles, was released in 1963. Here´s the video and the lyrics. Please, listen to it carefully as you read the lyrics.

  • They would have never imagined that, 57 years later, a “Coronavirus” version of that song would become viral. Again, here´s the video and the lyrics:

Which one do you like best?

SO, this is what we want you to do:

WOULD YOU( on your own or with your friends) BE ABLE TO

CHOOSE A SONG YOU LIKE ( it should be an easy one, one whose lyrics can be modified easily)

and CHANGE ITS LYRICS so that it becomes a Coronavirus hit??

You can write about wearing face masks and gloves/ getting together/ washing your hands/ keeping distance / staying home/ being desperate to go out/ going shopping/ not kissing or hugging your relatives and friends/ whatever other personal “Coronavirus/ lockdown ”experiences you want to share…..

BUT, WE DON´T WANT TO HURT PEOPLE´S FEELINGS ( we know this pandemic has been, and still is, a very serious issue. However, we think we must keep our sense of humour in order to overcome difficult periods of life). That´s why we must be respectful all the time. This is about having fun without hurting anyone.

ONLY FOR RISK-TAKERS:
A homemade video/audio file showing your teacher that special version??

Thank you! Enjoy the week!!

One more day, one more song: MEMORIES

Wednesday 25th March: MEMORIES , by Maroon 5.

 LYRICS
LYRICS

This is a song about memories, about THINKING OF OUR LOVED ONES and about celebrating LOVE, FRIENDSHIP...

HOW DO YOU CELEBRATE? We often MAKE A TOAST (= hacer un brindis)

¿Cómo se brinda en inglés? En la canción tenéis tres ejemplos:
  • HERE´S TO …..: esta va por ….
  • A TOAST TO….: un brindis por …..
  • CHEERS TO…: literalmente “ Alegría por...”, pero se traduce por "un brindis por…"

Os proponemos una actividad tras escuchar la canción:

Make a list of toasts you would like to make whenever the Coronavirus lockdown is lifted. Write them on a piece of paper and take it to your English teachers on the first day of school after this quarantine.

We could make a WALL OF TOASTS!!
