NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS

 Hi everyone,

The year 2021 has already started and I'm pretty sure we all want it to be quite different to year 2020.

Have you already made plans, set goals for this new year? These are called NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS.

A New Year’s resolution is a promise you make to yourself to do something good (or to stop doing something bad) in the New Year

According to The British Council, these were some of the most popular resolutions people made some years ago:

  • to eat more healthily or do more exercise
  • to stop a bad habit, such as to quit smoking or to stop swearing
  • to spend more time with your family
  • to be happier!
  • to travel or take a trip somewhere
  • to learn a foreign language
  • to learn how to cook
  • to save money
  • to read more books
  • to make more friends or be friendlier to other people
  • WHICH ONES WOULD YOU ADD FOR THIS SPECIAL YEAR??

DO YOU WANT TO LEARN HOW TO SPEAK ABOUT YOUR NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS AS A NATIVE SPEAKER?

Click on the link below ( though her resolutions were for the year 2018, I think it's worth watching it)

Keep on improving your Speaking skills!!)

Feel free to tell us your resolutions for the coming year.

Thanksgiving & Christmas recipe: EGGNOG

Our language assistant, Adlai, prepared eggnog for us. It is a delicious drink that is popular in celebrations like Thanksgiving or Christmas. Now, he shares the recipe with us. Have a look at it!

Hello everyone, I'm Sophie!

Today there is a big celebration in my country. We are celebrating the 75th anniversary of VE Day. The end of the Second World War. People have street parties and celebrate with food and drink alongside their neighbours, friends and family. The queen also makes a speech.
In this photo with red dots, you can see the bombs that fell on my city Southampton.

In just 2 nights there were 700 bombs and a lot of buildings were destroyed and people were killed.

In these photos you can see the people of Southampton celebrating VE Day in the past and present.

This is the Itinerary for my street’s celebration today:

There will be a 2-minute silence at 11am to pay respect to and remember the people who died in the war and fought for our country. At 3pm a speech from Winston Churchill, who was the prime minister at the time of the war, will be shown on television. After this, everyone will go outside to their front gardens (in front of their houses) to eat and drink.

There is social distancing because of the virus but all the neighbours will be able to see each other. At 9pm after the queen’s speech everyone will sing a famous song from the war called, “We’ll meet again.”
